Dear Friend,
|

Thanks to you and the rest of the Plumas Lake community, the PLYSA is in full effect. The baseball season is off to a great start, and holds the potential to make for a lot of fun. I am looking forward to bringing other programs to our area as well, such as flag football, cheerleading and basketball. The PLYSA needs your help and support to make this happen. Please help keep local sports local.
Thank you,
Terry Masse

Keep Local Sports Local!
|
What is the one topic that everyone in Plumas Lake can agree on? Independence. Our community wants to be recognized as an individual entity, not a bunch of people being shared by surrounding communities. I think we have done a great job so far coming together as unified voice and showing our presence. Now, we need to keep going. The local school board along with the Yolo County YMCA (yes Yolo County), want to bring their sports programs into the Plumas Lake community. Why? The PLYSA has already shown that it is capable of starting and maintaining sports programs here in PL. Then why the push for an outside agency? Money. The goal of the PLYSA is not to make money, it is to provide sports and recreation opportunities to the community. By keeping the interest local, we will be able to provide these programs at a lower cost. All of the money we receive goes back into the community such as the renovation of the baseball and softball fields at the Plumas Charter School. What about the 11.5 acre sports complex next to Rio del Oro? The PLYSA plans to acquire the lease on the facility, and develop it onto a full scale multi-use sports complex, complete with snack bar and restrooms. Do you think an outside agency would invest their time and money into this project? I am not saying that the YMCA is bad, just that a local organization has more of the communities best interests in mind than an outside agency. So, I ask that you help support us in our mission by contacting the school board and letting them know, "keep local sports local"

Bingo Night
|
On April 10, 2007 the PLYSA hosted its first Bingo Night at Riverside Meadows Elementary School. A big Thank You to all who attended. Included in the activities were a bounce house for the kids, donated by Plumas Lake Bounce Houses, a kiddie area with coloring and activities, snacks and of course Bingo. Win or lose, I think everyone who was there had a great time. We were also visited by the Linda Fire Department who came by to show their support. Some of the prizes were pies donated by Christine Bratton of CB's Perfect Pies, Gold Canyon Candles donated by Jenny Keen, a full-service hair cut donated by Kristi Walcott, movie passes and more. In all we were able to raise a total of $676.00, before expenses. The best part of the evening was the support that our community showed during the fourth game of the night. All of the proceeds from the sale of Bingo cards was donated to the family on Slingshot Way here in PL who lost all of their possessions in a house fire. We were able to present them with a check for $109.00.
On April 28, 2007 from 5pm to 10pm we will have our second fundraiser at Rio del Oro elementary. There will again be Bingo and prizes, but this time we will also be serving hot dogs, beans, chips and drinks along with other tasty treats. I hope to see you all there.
If you or anyone you know is interested in donating items for prizes, please contact us at info@plysa.org or call (530)797-4179. Thanks and hope to see you there!

Tiny T-Ballers
|
There is nothing that made me happier than watching the Tiny T-Ballers play baseball. Watching them play their first games on Saturday March 31, made me realize that all the time, effort and headaches were well worth it. The participation of the coaches, players and parents was tremendous. The season is off to a great start, and I look forward to seeing more. If you are interested in watching a game, they are played at Rio del Oro every Saturday until the end of May. The games are at 9:30am and 11:00am. If you would like to see pictures please go to www.plysa.org/photos2.html.
It's not too late to sign up. If you or someone you know has a child that would like to play, please visit the website or call for more information. |
| Upcoming Programs |
Sign ups will be starting soon for the Fall Flag Football and Cheerleading Program. The program will run from September to November. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in heading up these programs. Please contact us if interested at volunteer@plysa.org. We are also looking to start a competitive cheer program, so please contact us if you are interested in that as well.
The flag football program will be based on the NFL Flag Football program. Shirts and flag belts will be provided. The cost is to be determined, but should be around $45 - $50 per player.
The cheer program will be for the flag football teams, and will cost about the same. Ages for both will be 4-14 years old. Look for more information for sign-up dates on the website, or check your children's backpacks for notices from the school.
